Microsoft announced the release of an all-new, AI-powered Bing search engine and Edge browser, which will be available in preview at Bing.com beginning today, to provide better search, more complete answers, a new chat experience, and the ability to generate content. According to the business, they view these tools as an AI copilot for the web.
The company’s goal is to enable people to experience the wonder of creation, the joy of discovery, and a better utilisation of knowledge. By reinventing the tools that billions of people use every day, the search engine and the browser, the company is committed to maximising the benefits that the world derives from the internet.
“AI will fundamentally change every software category, starting with the largest category of all – search,” said Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, of Microsoft. “Today, we’re launching Bing and Edge powered by AI copilot and chat, to help people get more from search and the web.”
The company also states that there are almost 10 billion search queries made every day, but approximately half of them go unanswered. This is a result of users using search for purposes for which it was not intended. It works great for finding websites, but it frequently falls short when dealing with more challenging issues.
The new Bing and Edge – your copilot for the web
Microsoft has introduced the new Bing and Edge, a comprehensive web experience that combines search, browsing, and chat. This new feature provides users with the following benefits:
Improved search: The new Bing offers an improved search experience, providing more relevant results for simple inquiries such as sports scores, stock prices, and weather. Additionally, a new sidebar is included to display more comprehensive answers if desired.
Complete answers: Bing searches the web to find and summarize the answers users are looking for. For example, users can receive detailed instructions on how to substitute ingredients in a recipe without scrolling through multiple results.
Interactive chat experience: For more complex searches, the new Bing offers an interactive chat experience. This feature allows users to refine their search and receive complete answers by asking for more details, clarity, and ideas, with links available for immediate action.
Creative inspiration: The new Bing provides users with more than just answers, it can also provide inspiration. For instance, it can help users write an email, plan a trip, prepare for a job interview, or create a quiz. All sources are cited, allowing users to view links to referenced web content.
New Microsoft Edge experience: The Edge browser has been updated with new AI capabilities and a fresh look. Two new functionalities, Chat and Compose, have been added. With the Edge Sidebar, users can ask for a summary of a financial report, compare it to a competitor’s financials, and compose content such as a LinkedIn post. Edge can understand the web page being viewed and adapt accordingly.
