To assist eliminate undertreatment, Vizient, Inc., the biggest member-driven health care performance improvement firm in the country, today announced a strategic cooperation agreement with Mpirik, a cloud-based care pathway software company with a focus on cardiac care. Using technology, including artificial intelligence, the strategic alliance increases access to patient evaluation and clinical programs that enhance treatment and address health disparities.

More than half of the country’s acute care providers—including 97 percent of academic medical centers—and more than 20 percent of ambulatory care providers—are served by Vizient, Inc. Mpirik created a platform for healthcare intelligence that aggregates health data and tracks follow-up in order to uncover important findings, filter irrelevant information, and improve communication.

Bryan Grossman, SVP Strategic Supplier Performance and Category Management for Vizient, stated, “We are excited to have this strategic partnership agreement with Mpirik and offer clinical programs that utilize artificial intelligence to help physicians quickly identify at-risk patients based on multiple clinical risk factors. Through our recent pilot program, we have seen this platform help member health systems improve patient monitoring and reduce undertreatment that may come from disparities tied to gender or race. Improving outcomes provides a win for patients and providers.”

Under the agreement, Vizient members whoever takes part will have access to:

  • Automatic identification of cardiac at-risk patients to enhance results: The electronic health record (EHR) of the health system will be used by Mpirik’s algorithms to analyze diagnostic data, clinician notes, and timetables to decide whether a patient has one of 18 heart illnesses and the best course of treatment.
  • Automated patient identification alerts lead to reduced time from echocardiogram to intervention: Clinicians and/or administrators can examine their patient population using the Cardiac Intelligence® platform, manage identified patients to eliminate undertreatment, and receive automatic alert alerts on patients detected without a suitable follow-up plan.
  • Real-time aggregate reporting helps enhance health equity and market development opportunities: To gain insights into their patient population, including quality/data outliers, therapy outcomes, population heat maps by zip code, and much more, health institutions can access customizable, real-time aggregate reporting dashboards.

Logan Brigman, CEO for Mpirik, commented, “We are incredibly excited for the opportunity to expand our reach through the robust Vizient network. Vizient shares our vision to utilize the best tools available to drive performance improvement. Our A.I. platform currently analyzes over 30,000 patients per month to ensure cardiac patients are adhering to an appropriate care pathway. This strategic partnership will provide more access to the rigorous quality initiatives that provide the best care and outcomes for patients.”
